Neighborhood burglar pleads guilty

A man accused of committing at least a dozen burglaries in the University of Denver area over a year’s time pleaded guilty in Denver District Court on March 25.

Tarius Simes, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery, and second-degree burglary in a plea agreement that represents all of the victims.

Between Oct. 2008 and Sept. 2009, Simes repeatedly burglarized homes in the DU area, typically stealing small electronics such as laptops, often while residents were sleeping. On more than one occasion, he awoke the victim and verbally threatened them.

Simes, who remains in custody, faces 40–60 years in the Department of Corrections when he is sentenced on May 6.
