Student group raises money for pediatric research, to host benefit concert

The Up ‘Til Dawn campus organization will host a benefit concert on March 29 featuring the band Braddigan at the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall in DU’s Newman Center for the Performing Arts.

Up ’Til Dawn raises funds to help support the cutting-edge research and treatment of pediatric cancers and other pediatric diseases at St. Jude Hospital. The concert is the culmination of 12 months of fund-raising activities, says Kristin Olson, adviser for the group.

“We’ve already raised approximately $10,000 from letter donations and the various events,” says Olson.  “Ideally, we’d like to raise a total of $30,000 for this year all together.”

The group hosted a St. Jude Awareness week in February that included T-shirt sales, a bake sale, St. Jude trivia, a movie night with the DU Programs Board, a talent showcase and a letter writing event. The group also solicits donations and sponsorships from local companies.

The chapter was established at DU in 2002 and has raised more than $100,000 to date. The chapter has 13 executive board members and 260 members on campus.

Braddigan’s music has been described by reviewers as “what would happen in a loving fist-fight between Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, and Pearl Jam.”

Tickets for the concert are available through the Newman Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets. Pre-sale tickets are $15 with a valid DU identification and $25 for the general public. Tickets at the door are $5 more. All tickets are general admission. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the concert starting at 7 p.m. The Foot, a student band, will open the concert.
