Taste of DU adds flavor to Homecoming weekend

Hundreds of alumni, parents, students, faculty and staff will come together this weekend in celebration of Homecoming. Events will be held Oct. 14–17.

Hockey games against Boston College and a “Taste of DU” event, featuring sample dishes and foods from restaurants owned by DU alumni and prepared by hotel, restaurant and tourism management students, are the main events this year, explains Hallie Lorimer, DU’s director of alumni programs. The Taste of DU will be held from 5–7 p.m. in the Gates Field House Oct. 16.

The Pioneer hockey team will take on Boston College at 7:37 p.m. Oct. 15 and 7:07 p.m. Oct. 16.

Another highlight, says Lorimer, is the fall festival, a carnival-themed celebration at the Driscoll Student Center Bridge and Ballroom on Oct. 16 from 12:30–2:30 p.m.

For $10 per family, families can enjoy activities such as face painting and pumpkin painting.

The annual Homecoming parade will follow the festival at 3 p.m. Oct. 16. Student organizations will be making floats and participating in the parade. The parade’s theme is “All that Glitters is Crimson and Gold.” Floats will commence from the intersection of Josephine Street and Buchtel Boulevard.

“I am most excited for our DU community to get together to celebrate our amazing University,” Lorimer says. “Having the energy on campus for this special weekend is a reminder of the outstanding things DU has done in our past, is doing currently and will do in the future.”

A number of dinners, receptions and lectures also will occur throughout the weekend. For a full schedule of events, visit www.du.edu/homecoming.
