University Advancement to receive 2014 Quality Department Award

University Advancement celebrated the successful close of ASCEND: the Campaign for the University of Denver in June. The eight-year fundraising effort generated nearly $490 million in gifts from more than 48,000 members of the University of Denver community (including more than 26,000 donors who had never before given to DU). ASCEND established nearly 600 new scholarships, created buildings and spaces that enhance the intellectual and social lives of students, and made funding available to attract and retain distinguished faculty. During the campaign, the University’s endowment grew from $223 million to more than $460 million, strengthening the University’s financial foundation for a promising future. In addition to completing the most successful fundraising campaign in the University’s history, Advancement also has renewed its focus on the alumni experience. Through programs and other initiatives, Advancement is continuing to deepen the campuswide culture of engagement and philanthropy.

For its hard work and success on the campaign, University Advancement will receive the Quality Department Award at the Convocation ceremony on Oct. 2.

“The award names University Advancement as a department, but truly, the honor belongs to all of our colleagues across campus whose work strengthens alumni and donors’ connection to the University,” says Scott Lumpkin, vice chancellor for advancement. “This recognition by the University spotlights the success we have created during ASCEND, the values we uphold as a team, and the culture of collaboration and respect we foster.”
