University of Denver surpasses $300 million in fundraising campaign

The University of Denver has surpassed the $300 million mark in its current fundraising drive, which is called ASCEND: The Campaign for the University of Denver.

Money raised from the comprehensive campaign will go to supporting the University’s scholarships, professorships, chairs, programs and select capital projects.

ASCEND began its silent phase in 2006 and kicked off a public phase in October 2010.  During that time, the campaign has broken a number of DU fundraising records with five of the top six fundraising years in DU history.

Scholarships are one of the campaign’s highest priorities. More than $84 million has been raised for scholarships during the campaign so far. More than 250 new scholarships have been established during the campaign.

The campaign’s primary capital project is the Academic Commons at Penrose Library — a revitalization of the library that will provide a technology-rich and energy-efficient place for students and faculty to research, collaborate and learn. The Academic Commons is scheduled for completion in late 2012.

As part of ASCEND, the University is about to complete a month-long faculty and staff campaign. The participation rate among faculty and staff this fiscal year has increased more than 150 percent since the employee campaign kickoff event in September.

The ASCEND campaign will conclude in 2014, coinciding with DU’s sesquicentennial. To learn more, visit du.edu/ascend.
