Background

Alan Chen is a Professor of Law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he teaches Constitutional Law, Civil Rights, Federal Jurisdiction, and Criminal Procedure. He was appointed to the DU faculty in 1992. For five years prior to entering teaching, Chen was a staff attorney for the Roger Baldwin Foundation of ACLU, Inc. in Chicago, where he engaged in federal and state constitutional litigation, focusing primarily on cases involving the First Amendment, police misconduct and privacy rights. Immediately before that, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. Marvin E. Aspen, United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Chen received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1985 and his bachelor of arts with High Honors in political science, summa cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University in 1982.
