Event will raise funds for student scholarships
DENVER—Twelve students from the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business will plan and implement the first annual DU Vin Wine Festival on Nov. 8, 2009. The event will feature nationally-known experts from the wine, hospitality and culinary industry including David Long from David Arthur Wines, Craig Reed from the Broadmoor Resort, and representatives from Riedel Glassware. Du vin is French for “the wine”, and DU Vin will be one of the premier Denver wine events for wine enthusiasts, culinary experts and winemakers to meet and enjoy some of the finest varietals.
Prior to the DU Vin Festival, a multi-course gourmet dinner planned and executed by HRTM culinary experts will be held on Nov. 4, 2009. During each course carefully matched with elegant wines from David Arthur Vineyards, guests will be educated about pairings intended to bring out extraordinary flavors. Menu items include herbed Indian fry bread, watercress and Colorado candied smoked trout; mushroom stuffed pasta with herbed buerre blanc; grilled rack of lamb over braised rainbow swiss chard with a red wine gastrique and gingerbread trifle with candied kumquats, wine poached cranberries and mascarpone cream. Tickets for the wine pairing dinner are $125 per person.
On Nov. 8, 2009 from 2-6 p.m., the Grand Tasting will be held with chefs, more than 60 vintners, wine vendors and restaurateurs pouring high-end international wines, paired with local food specialties. Tickets to the Grand Tasting are $52.80 each. In addition, various seminars on food and wine pairing, green wine growing, and the wines of Tuscany will precede the Grand Tasting for an additional fee. Seminars include “Enjoying Fine Wines on a Budget,” “Colorado Wines,” “Wine 101,” “The Riedel Glassware Experience,” “Touring Super Toscana,” “Food and Wine Pairing with the Broadmoor,” and “Green Wine Growing.”
DU Vin will emphasize a sustainable focus by employing recycled products, sustainable glassware, green cleaning methods, and locally-grown foods. Proceeds from the student-conceived and run festival will provide scholarships for HRTM students.
