Strength and Conditioning Complex serves DU’s 17 varsity athletic programs
DENVER— Student-athletes in the University of Denver’s 17 varsity athletic programs now have a new 10,000-square foot facility where they can train. The Pat Bowlen Training Center—named for the president and CEO of the Denver Broncos who is also a member of the DU Board of Trustees—opened today during a ceremony at the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness. Bowlen donated $1.5 million toward the $6.3 million project.
The training facility was constructed simultaneously with the recently-opened CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The training complex is located beneath the soccer stadium seating and is attached to the Ritchie Center on the west side of the building.
“I’m pleased that we can now offer our student-athletes one of the premier training facilities in Division I athletics,” says DU Chancellor Robert Coombe. “Having a facility of this caliber is very important for all our Athletics programs, and I’m grateful to Pat for helping make this day possible.”
The strength and conditioning complex includes the following:
- Warm-up areas
- Weight lifting and cardio and rehabilitation stations
- 12 Olympic lifting stations
- Video screening room
- 66-yard turf track for speed and agility training
“It’s great to see that the student-athletes at DU have a first-class facility to train and work out in,” says Bowlen. “This complex helps ensure that DU’s varsity athlete programs can be successful well into the future.”
Bowlen joined the DU board of trustees in 1987 and has served on numerous trustee committees, including chairing Athletic Affairs from 1994-1996.
