Background
Robert Stencel, PhD, is the William Herschel Womble Professor of Astronomy and Director of DU Observatories – including the historic Chamberlin Observatory (est. 1894), Meyer-Womble Observatory located atop 14,268 ft Mt.Evans, Colorado (est. 1972/1996) and the newer Student Astronomy Lab (est. 2004). Following graduate study in astronomy at the University of Michigan, Dr. Stencel worked at NASA Houston and Greenbelt sites and NASA Headquarters in Washington DC, prior to joining Denver University in 1993. His research interests include stellar evolution and infrared instrumentation.
