DENVER—U.S. Senator Michael F. Bennet, D-Colorado, will deliver the commencement address to graduates at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 at Magness Arena. Senator Bennet also will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree.
“We are extremely pleased that Senator Bennet will give our commencement address,” said Martin J. Katz, dean of the Sturm College of Law. “He is truly dedicated to the rule of law, to education, and to public service. And he is a great exemplar of how graduates can use a law degree. We are delighted that he will address our graduating students.”
Senator Bennet was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2009 and elected to a full six-year term in 2010. In the Senate he is a member of the committees on Agriculture; Nutrition and Forestry; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; and the Special Committee on Aging.
Prior to going to the Senate, he was superintendent of Denver Public Schools and before that served as chief of staff to then-Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.
He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and obtained his law degree from Yale University where he was editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal.
Approximately 320 law students are expected to receive their degrees at the Sturm College of Law’s commencement ceremony.
