The Women’s College of the University of Denver and Denver’s St. Mary’s Academy will present the ninth annual Leadership Conference for Girls on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon. This is the first year that The Women’s College has partnered with the event.
The conference is designed to connect female students in grades 6-12 and their parents with well-respected community and national leaders in order to teach tangible lessons in leadership.
The keynote speaker will be Charlotte Waisman, a nationally known champion for women and author of “Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America.” “Her Story” provides a timeline of the achievements of American women since the 1500s and highlights over 850 artists, writers, doctors, scientists and activists of all backgrounds and philosophies. Waisman’s keynote address will feature the stories of women and girls whose first leadership accomplishments took place when they were pre-teens, teenagers or young adults. Waisman serves on the Leadership Studies advisory board at The Women’s College.
Students from the “Leadership Process” class at The Women’s College will offer a gallery walk through a series of informational exhibits aimed at drawing attention to the way in which young women have positively impacted their communities and the world. Additionally, students from The Women’s College will sit on a panel and discuss the ways they personally enact leadership and what motivates them to take action around particular cause or issue.
A second panel will be made up of other distinguished women leaders from the Denver community.
If purchased by October 16, tickets are $15 for St. Mary’s Academy students and $25 for non-students. On the day of the event, tickets are $20 for St. Mary’s students and $30 for students not attending SMA. There is no charge for parents accompanying their daughters. The Women’s College of the University of Denver provides women the opportunity to earn bachelor degrees and certificates by by taking classes on weekends, evenings, and in a blended-online format.
The Women’s College offers four baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, Communications, Information Technology Studies and Law and Society. Certificates are also offered in Community Based Research, Conflict Management Studies, Entrepreneurial Studies, Gender & Women’s Studies, Information Technology Studies, Leadership Studies, Philanthropic Studies and Writing.
