Gather outside the Ritchie Center to enjoy the free music
DENVER – University of Denver (DU) Carillonneur Carol Jickling Lens will host four summer concerts at 4 p.m. June 27, July 11, July 25 and Aug. 8. The carillon is located in the Williams Bell Tower at the Ritchie Center, so the public is welcome to gather near the Ritchie Center to listen in for free.
DU’s carillon features 65 bronze bells, the biggest of which weighs six tons. It has a baton keyboard with foot pedals the carillonneur strikes with her fists and feet. DU’s Carillon is one of 180 such instruments in North America, and only the second in Colorado.
“I am quite excited about hosting the first summer carillon recital series at DU,” Jickling Lens says. “I hope this will be a popular event so that we can have an annual summer recital series.”
