DENVER –The University of Denver and National Geographic host the 25th annual state championships for the 2013 National Geographic Bee on Friday, April 5, with more than 100 Colorado students in grades four through eight vying for a chance to compete in the National Geographic Bee Championship in Washington, D.C. on May 20-22.
This year’s competition features the return of champion Pranit Nanda, a 7th grader of Aurora Qwest K-8 schools. Nanda will be aiming for a return to the final round and a shot at a second straight state title. The final round will be moderated by Susan Daggett, Sen. Michael Bennet’s wife and director of the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute at the University’s Sturm College of Law.
The final round is open to reporters and starts at 1:15 p.m. in the Davis Auditorium, located inside Sturm Hall on the DU campus. The final round will consist of the top 10 students and typically takes about an hour.
