Music Video Filmed during TEDxDU is Released

John Common and Blinding Flashes of Light are collaborators in the truest sense of the word.  Recently, the band harnessed the power of music fans to create a video for “In My Neighborhood,” another standout track from their newly released record Beautiful Empty.

Filmed last month at the TEDxDU event at the University of Denver, the music video was shot in one five-hour period and features band performances interspersed with fans singing.  TEDxDU is an independently organized TED event “devoted to ideas worth spreading.” TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design.

Filmmaker Darci Alishouse, who directed the “In My Neighborhood” video, was recently recognized by her film industry peers at the Los Angeles independent film festival, Dances With Films.  She received the honor of Best Music Video for her work on the John Common track “Turnaround” music video.  Turnaround is a song on the band’s just-released record, Beautiful Empty.

Musically collaborative, John Common’s album Beautiful Empty draws from some of the most talented musicians in the Denver area.  Visually, the band’s work with filmmaker Alishouse has resulted in imaginative, creative, and now award winning companion pieces to music that is being embraced by critics and music fans across the country.

The momentum is building for Common and the band.  Recently they kicked off their U.S. Tour in Mobile, Ala.  The band will continue up the east coast culminating in Brooklyn, New York on July 17th.  Midwest and West Coast tour dates will be announced in July.
