Grove named director of DU Office of Equal Opportunity/ADA Compliance

Kathryne Grove will direct DU's Office of Equal Opportunity/ADA Compliance.

Kathryne Grove has joined the University of Denver as director of the Office of Equal Opportunity/ADA Compliance.

The office — formerly known as the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity — exists to assure that the University complies with its own policies on discrimination, harassment, and retaliation and to promote full compliance with all federal, state and local discrimination laws.

The office is unaffiliated with any DU department in order to ensure neutrality and objectivity.

Grove is charged with investigating complaints of harassment and discrimination through in-depth, one-on-one interviews with all involved parties and review of relevant documents. Following her investigation, she will make a factual finding about whether discrimination or harassment did or did not occur but does not have the authority to impose any corrective or disciplinary action upon a finding of a discriminatory act.

Grove will oversee compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, including matters such as physical accessibility and program and academic accommodations. Additionally, Grove will make determinations concerning accommodations for University employees. Grove also assists with the faculty search process to ensure compliance with equal opportunity laws.

“This position is about more than just compliance; it’s sending the message that we take inclusion very seriously at DU,” Grove says.

Grove is a 2003 graduate of DU’s Sturm College of Law and has held positions with Mountain States Employers Council, the Supreme Court of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and was a social worker prior to attending law school.

“I am very excited to have Kathryne part of our DU community. Her vast experience and knowledge around the applicable laws and institutional policies, coupled with her sensitivity ensures a level of professionalism that is necessary when handling these matters,” says Amy King, DU’s director of human resources. “She is well suited for this position.”

To file a complaint, discuss concerns or get more information, individuals may contact Grove at 303-871-7436 or kathryne.grove@du.edu. Information about the University’s policies and complaint procedures is available at www.du.edu/deo.
