Jennie’s Concert to celebrate Joe Docksey

Jennie's Concert was named in honor of Jennifer Brown.

Students, faculty and alumni from the Lamont School of Music brass department will gather to perform in celebration of Joe Docksey, the director of the school who’s retiring this summer.

“Joe is deeply loved by all his students,” says Kathy Brantigan, Lamont tuba instructor. Brantigan says 12 alumni of the brass department will return to perform with Docksey, which brings the total number of performers for the concert to 49.

“It’ll be a huge sound,” Brantigan says.

Brantigan has performed with Docksey around the world and says he is highly regarded.

“He’s a technically magnificent player, with a gorgeous sound and musicality that can take your breath away in a matter of seconds,” Brantigan says.

The performance is this year’s “Jennie’s Concert,” which is named for former student Jennifer Brown, who died from a brain tumor.

The free concert will be 7:30 p.m. May 5 in the Hamilton Recital Hall at the Newman Center. No tickets are necessary.
