DU skier makes Norwegian Olympic team

University of Denver alpine skier Leif Kristian Haugen was named to Norway’s Olympic team and will compete in the Vancouver Games next month.

Haugen, a sophomore international business major from of Lommendalen, Norway, has won two slalom races and placed second in two giant slalom races for the Pioneers this season. Last year, Haugen led DU to its 20th national title after finishing second in the giant slalom and third in the slalom at the 2009 NCAA championships. The performance earned Haugen All-American first team honors in both events.

“We are thrilled for Leif and wish him the best in Vancouver,” says DU alpine head coach Andy LeRoy.

Haugen is expected to return to the Pioneers team following the Olympic Games.
