DU wins Colorado Cup with 3-0 win over UNC

Senior Kristen Hamilton netted two goals and senior Jessy Battelli added another to lead the University of Denver women’s soccer team to a 3-0 win over Northern Colorado Sunday at Prentup Field in Boulder, Colo., on the final day of the Third Annual Colorado Cup.

Denver secured its first-ever Colorado Cup trophy by tallying five goals over two games. Two-time Cup Champion Colorado finished second with four combined goals.

“We played a quality opponent today and we were very pleased with the result,” said head coach Jeff Hooker. “We were able to play everyone on the roster. Having the first Friday-Sunday games, our legs weren’t there, but we got a nice contribution from players who did not start.”

With her two goals, Hamilton became the fourth Pioneer in program history to record 100 career points. Former Pioneer Kaitlin Bast was the last Pioneer to break the 100-point plateau, finishing with 104 over her four-year career.

“We’re very proud of Kristen’s efforts today in surpassing the 100-point plateau,’ Hooker said. “Her hard work both on the ball and off the ball really paid off today.”

Denver continues its season at home, welcoming St. Mary’s to CIBER Field on Friday, Aug. 30, at 5:30 p.m.
