Hockey team hangs on to Gold Pan Trophy after 2-game sweep of CC Tigers

The 300th meeting between the DU Pioneers and the Colorado College Tigers proved to be a victorious affair for the visitors, as the Crimson & Gold skated into Broadmoor World Arena Saturday night and earned a 3-1 win at the expense of their hosts. By virtue of Friday’s home win, in conjunction with Saturday’s road victory, Denver retains the Gold Pan Trophy.

“This was a good win for us,” Denver head coach Jim Montgomery said after the game. “It’s never easy to sweep a two-game series in the NCHC, and this weekend was no different. This was a solid team effort and a great defensive performance for us on this (Olympic-sized) ice surface. We’re definitely pleased to be keeping the Gold Pan in Denver for another year as well.”

Denver will next face the University of Minnesota Duluth Nov. 13 and 14 in a two-game series at AMSOIL Arena. The Pioneers’ next home game is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11, against St. Cloud State.
