Hyder named conference broadcaster of the year

University of Denver radio voice Mitch Hyder has been named the 2009–10 Sun Belt Conference broadcaster of the year.

“I am honored to win this award, especially considering all of the outstanding broadcasters in this conference,” Hyder says. “The unbelievable coaches and student-athletes at the University of Denver make my job great.”

Hyder is in his 11th year at DU, where he called 63 men’s and women’s basketball games on the radio and hosted 16 one-hour men’s basketball coaches’ shows.

“Mitch is one of the best broadcasters in college sports, and he’s very deserving of this honor,” Denver men’s basketball head coach Joe Scott says. “He puts in countless hours, and his passion for all the teams at Denver comes across every time he’s on the air. We are fortunate to have him representing the Pioneers.”

Hyder also hosted and produced more than 75 student-athlete video profiles for numerous conference sports, including basketball, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, and tennis, as well as 16 one-on-one coaches’ interviews and multiple DU team preview packages. In addition, Hyder assisted the conference with live streaming and play-by-play during the men’s and women’s conference basketball tournaments. Hyder and DU provided daily updates of the conference men’s and women’s golf tournaments in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Additionally, Hyder serves as master of ceremonies at several events each year and provides voice-overs to numerous highlight videos.

Hyder was presented with the award at the 2010 Sun Belt Conference baseball championship in Murfreesboro, Tenn., where he threw out the honorary first pitch.
