Memorial service announced for Murray Armstrong

Murray Armstrong led DU to five national championships during his tenure as head hockey coach.

 The University of Denver and the Denver Hockey Alumni Association (DHAA) will hold a memorial service for legendary hockey head coach Murray “The Chief” Armstrong.

Armstrong, who coached DU to five NCAA national championships, died Dec. 8, 2010. He was 94.

The “Hail to The Chief” service will take place at 5 p.m. MST Feb. 19 on the third floor of DU’s Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness. A reception in the Champions Room on the concourse level of Magness Arena will follow the service.

Former players and spouses will be provided with tickets for DU’s game against Michigan Tech at 7:07 p.m.

The DHAA also held an informal memorial service for Armstrong on Feb. 12 at the Radisson University Hotel in Minneapolis.
