Men’s hockey to vie for Frozen Four starting Saturday

The University of Denver Pioneers enter the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship as a No. 2 seed in the East Regional portion of the tournament. Denver will face Boston College on Saturday, March 28, at 1 p.m. MDT in regional semifinal action. The winning team will advance to the national quarterfinals on March 29 (3 p.m. MDT) against either the MU RedHawks or the PC Friars. All East Regional games will be played at the Dunkin Donuts Center. A full tournament bracket can be viewed on the NCAA site.

Denver (23-13-2) finished third at the 2015 Frozen Faceoff Saturday, defeating No. 1-ranked North Dakota 5-1 in the NCHC Consolation Final at Minneapolis’ Target Center. Boston College (21-11-3) was eliminated from Hockey East title contention in the conference’s quarterfinals on March 16. The Eagles have won five national championships in their history, while the Pioneers have won seven. Denver is 15-13-0 all-time versus BC. The Eagles and Pioneers split their 2014–15 regular season series with one win apiece; both games were played at Magness Arena and were decided by a single goal.

Saturday’s DU-BC game will be broadcast by ESPN 2 as well as ESPN Denver 105.5 FM.
