Pioneers set to take on Outlaws in lacrosse showcase

The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team and Major League Lacrosse’s Denver Outlaws will face off for the first time in the inaugural Colorado Lacrosse Showcase on Oct. 24. The game will be the first scrimmage of the 2009–10 season for DU and the first time the Pioneers have squared off against a professional lacrosse team.

“I can’t think of a more exciting day of lacrosse for the Denver lacrosse community, or a greater setting for this contest,” DU head coach Bill Tierney says. “It will be a great opportunity for our alumni, families and friends to observe the exciting things that are happening in and around the DU men’s lacrosse program.”

“The Outlaws look forward to getting back on the field and taking on a very good collegiate team,” Outlaws head coach Brian Reese says. “I expect DU to be a very prepared and talented team and this will be a special kickoff to the Bill Tierney era in Denver.”

Fans will get the chance to see their favorite Outlaws players at the game and clinic, including DU assistant coach Matt Brown.

The game begins at 1 p.m.at DU’s Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased through www.ticketmaster.com or at the DU Box Office.

The game will be preceded by the Colorado Lacrosse Showcase Youth Clinic, which features the Denver Outlaws and Tierney. Geared toward boys in second through eighth grade, the clinic will cover skills including shooting, dodging, footwork, one-on-one defense, clearing and transition work. The clinic begins at 10 a.m. at Barton Stadium. An Outlaws autograph session starts at 11:30 a.m. Admission for the clinic is $50 and includes a game ticket.
