Stiegler to be honored by Colorado Ski & Snowboard hall of fame

DU’s Seppi Stiegler will be honored as the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame’s 2011 male collegiate skier of the year.

Stiegler became the fifth Pioneer to win the NCAA giant slalom individual title in 2011, earning All-American honors. He also won two giant slalom races during the regular season at the Denver Invitational and the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) qualifiers. Stiegler visited the podium in giant slalom races in two of the other four races and in one slalom race, placing second at Montana State. He was named the 2011 RMISA male skier of the year.

Stiegler took time away from DU, missing two slalom races, while he competed for Team USA at the World University Games in Turkey. Stiegler won a gold medal in slalom and earned a silver medal for overall performances in the eight races in which he competed, helping the U.S. to its best performance on foreign soil at any level in U.S. alpine history.

Based off his 2011 season performance, Stiegler was invited to the U.S. Ski Team’s spring tryout camp in Mammoth Mountain, Calif., resulting in a nomination to the 2012 national team.

Stiegler will be honored at the organization’s annual gala at the Omni-Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colo., on Nov. 4.
