Women’s basketball loses to South Dakota in Summit League Championship

University of Denver senior forward Desiree Hunter had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but the No. 6-seeded Pioneers fell 82-71 to No. 4-seeded South Dakota in The Summit League Championship at Sioux Falls Arena on Tuesday.

Sophomore guard Paige Bradley earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, matching Hunter with 14 points and adding five assists. Junior forward Theresa Wirth scored 13 points, while sophomore guard Kailey Edwards and senior forward Alison Janecek scored 10 points each. Janecek pulled down eight rebounds for the Pioneers.

“First of all, a big congrats to South Dakota. It’s no surprise for them to be in that championship game. South Dakota has been a force late in the conference season, and they will represented our conference very well,” DU head coach Kerry Cremeans said. “I can’t tell you how proud I am of our players and their fight, their guts and their heart to make it to this championship game. We fought all the way to the end. South Dakota was able to convert on some transition baskets. I’m very proud of our second year. Our vision was for them to feel and taste what this feels like. These kids feel it, and they know what it’s going to take as we move forward with this program.”
