Lamont Featured Performance: Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet Master Class

Members of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet will hold a master class at DU on Oct. 20.

The Berlin Philharmonic has more than 100 musicians and is considered one of the best orchestras in the world.

The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet has only five members, but has been described as “arguably the best ensemble of its kind in the world” by the Manchester Evening News.

And DU students will have a chance to learn from these venerated musicians. Members of the celebrated quintet will hold a master class with Lamont student chamber groups at 10 a.m. Oct. 20 in Room 130 of the Newman Center for the Performing Arts. The class — part of the Lamont Guest Artists Master Class and Workshop Series — is free and open to the public.

“The Lamont School of Music is very excited to have the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet to our school,” says DU clarinet Professor Jeremy Reynolds. “The Berlin Quintet is one if the premiere ensembles for this genre, and it will be an amazing experience to have our students hear their concert as well as performing for the group.”

The Denver Friends of Chamber Music is sponsoring the master class. The quintet is scheduled to perform at the Newman Center later that evening.
