Lamont Featured Performance: Lamont Chorale, men’s choir and women’s chorus

The Lamont Chorale will sing on Nov. 16.

DU’s Lamont Chorale, men’s choir, and women’s chorus will take their audience on a journey through time in a concert Nov. 16 with choral literature from the 16th to the 21st centuries.

“Each remarkable ensemble will feature a unique flavor for your musical palate,” says James Ramsey, interim conductor of the chorale and women’s chorus. Each group also features guest performers ranging from faculty artists to instrumental students to a boy’s choir.

The men’s choir — conducted by DU’s Paul Smith — will be joined by associate professor of voice Larry Glenn for a Schubert song, and the Young Voices of Colorado Boychoir for a performance of the classic piece Es ist ein Ros enstsprungen (Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming).

The women’s chorus will feature several works by women composers, and Dance Ablaze! will feature a percussion ensemble comprised of Lamont percussion students.

“The women will also perform a unique setting of Adiemus with choreography and MIDI organ sounds,” Ramsey says.

The Lamont Chorale will add drama to the evening with Hovland’s aleatory work Saul, which will be narrated by Kenneth Cox, DU’s vocal and opera department chair.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in Gates Concert Hall at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts. Admission is free, no tickets are necessary. Parking is free in the Newman Center parking garage with entrance from Wesley Avenue.
