Following a road game at Utah State on Wednesday night, the University of Denver men’s basketball team returns to Magness Arena to take on Texas Southern at 4 p.m. on Dec. 3. This marks the first-ever meeting between the Pioneers and Eagles, who won the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season title last year.
Denver beat mid-major power Saint Mary’s 70-58 on Nov. 23 and suffered its first loss of the season when it fell 80-59 at No. 18 Cal on Nov. 26. The Pioneers look to improve to 5-1, which would match their best start since returning to NCAA Division I in 1998–99. DU was also 5-1 in 2005–06 and 2009–10.
Senior guard Brian Stafford of Walnut Creek, Calif., moved into a tie with Dick Brott (1954–57) for 13th place on DU’s all-time scoring list with 1,212 career points. Sophomore forward Chris Udofia of Irving, Texas, set a new career high with six assists against Cal. Udofia is averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 blocked shots and 3.0 assists per game. Freshman forward Royce O’Neale of Killeen, Texas, is leading the Pioneers in rebounding with 4.4 per game, while adding 7.8 points per game, coming off the bench.
Men’s basketball individual game tickets range from $9–$15. Single-game tickets may be purchased in person at the Ritchie Center Box Office, by phone at 303-871-2336 or online at DenverPioneers.com. DU students are admitted to all Denver men’s and women’s basketball games free with their Pioneer Card.
