Students clear downed branches in 1959Early snow

Although heavy snowfall is not uncommon in Colorado, the storm that hit the DU campus on Sept. 29, 1959, was. This storm, the first to occur in the month of September in 25 years according to the 1960 Kynewisbok, not only accumulated 10 inches but also caused between $10,000 and $12,000 in damages to the University area. Pledges from the Phi Kap fraternity were quick turn the storm into a fundraising opportunity, clearing downed tree branches for neighborhood residents in exchange for small donations.
